Posted @withregram • @cspina For today's Cozy Companion prompt for #12DaysOfCozies, I am focusing on Marshmallow, Mimi Lee's talking cat sidekick. He is a fun addition to the Sassy Cat Mystery series by Jennifer J. Chow (@JenJChow). Talking cats aren't always my favorite, but I actually liked his elements in the books! I really can't wait for the author's new series, which starts with Death By Bubble Tea. It is one of my most anticipated new series for 2022! I can't wait to read it!!

Mimi Lee just found an extra perk to being a pet groomer at Hollywoof (other than cuddling animals all day long, that is). Pixie St. James, one of Mimi’s clients and the investor behind Hollywoof, has offered her and her boyfriend, Josh, a getaway at her vacation home, nestled on beautiful Catalina Island. With the island just outside of Los Angeles but still far enough from the hustle and bustle, Mimi, Josh, and their cat Marshmallow (who, of course, wouldn’t be caught dead in a dingy pet hotel) are excited for their relaxing stay.

That is, until Pixie’s last renter, Davis D. Argo, turns up dead. Mimi and Josh’s romantic getaway immediately turns into an enormous buzzkill, especially when Pixie asks Mimi for help. The police suspect Pixie, and Mimi knows a thing or two about wrongful allegations. Mimi figures it couldn’t hurt to snoop a little since she’s already there, and soon discovers that a valuable item is missing. Except Pixie isn’t the only one in the neighborhood who has been robbed. There is something strange happening on the island, and Mimi won’t stop until she finds out what it is.

This was such a nice twist to a cozy mystery. I enjoyed the diversity among the characters and the surprises along the way. It is the third in the series, but can be read as a stand alone (as it seems like with many cozies) . I liked how we also got a look at Mimi’s family and heritage. I need to read the others in the series now because this was just so fun!

Review:
This is such a fun cozy mystery and Mimi Lee is a delightful character along with her sassy cat Marshmallow. I enjoyed hearing Marshmallow's thoughts and he reminds me of one of my own sassy cats. I liked how well the mystery was presented and solved and I can't wait to read the first two books in this series. This story was a great escape for a few hours.

Q. Do you ever print out pictures?

Mimi Lee Cracks The Code was published on Tuesday. It's the third in the Sassy Cat Mystery series by @jenjchow This time Mimi and Marshmallow have to solve a murder on Catalina Island. I recently finished the 2nd in the series and am extra excited to read this one. I visited Catalina Island yearsss ago, back when disposable cameras were still used and you had to print pictures in order to look at them 🤣 Now I rarely print pictures but at least they are better quality. A little filter on these two makes them not half bad! 🤣
