Repost from @readspace1 using repost_now_app - 📚Book Review📚

Reading and sharing books by AAPI and Asian authors means that they are seen and appreciated, that representation matters. It shows other readers and publishers that these are books that are not just needed but wanted and read.

For these reasons I am focusing my reading this month on celebrating AAPI and Asian authors. #AAPIApril challenge ☔

Book Review: Mimi Lee Gets a Clue: A Sassy Cat Mystery #1 by Jennifer J. Chow

-Genre

Cozy mystery

-About the author (from https://jenniferjchow.com/press-kit/)

Jennifer J. Chow writes the #ownvoices A Sassy Cat Mystery series. She also published the Winston Wong Cozy Mysteries under J.J. Chow.

Her other Asian-American novels include Dragonfly Dreams (a Teen Vogue pick) and The 228 Legacy. Jennifer’s short fiction has appeared in the STEM anthology, Brave New Girls: Tales of Heroines who Hack, Over My Dead Body! magazine, and Hyphen Magazine. She’s involved with Mystery Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, and Crime Writers of Color.

-Your description

Mimi Lee is struggling. She needs customers in her new LA pet grooming shop, Hollywoof, her mother keeps setting her up on dates, and her sister gave her a rescue cat who talks. When Mimi reports a local breeder who is running a puppy mill and he ends up dead, she is now a suspect. Good thing cute neighbor Josh is a lawyer.

-How it made you feel

At first the talking cat threw me for a loop and then I realized it is just like witches and other aspects of cozies that are removed from reality. Once you suspend disbelief enough to get drawn into a cozy, believing other impossible things is possible.

-Favorite part

Marshmallow, Marshmallow, “you can call me Emperor,” Marshmallow (who can talk to humans AND dogs!)

-One-word description

Family

-Would you recommend?

This was wonderful, you can’t help but get swept along with Mimi and all the craziness of Los Angeles, her new business, her doggy mom clients, her family, romantic interest Josh and of course that cat. I think this would be great for fans of Spencer Quinn’s Chet and Bernie...
