“Tomorrow your creative side will shine forth with exceptional ideas.”
Okay, maybe not exactly like Star Trek, but there are some cool developments for senior living. When your entire apartment is a medical monitor, can robust health be maintained?
One new live-in-laboratory in Texas examines this idea. It boasts amenities, like:
- face recognition software (to analyze skin color and potential health issues)
- keyless entry
- sensors-studded floor (monitors the body 50 times a second)
Would you or your loved one live in a place like this?
Wow, that’s quite fascinating. Makes me wonder what the world will look like in 20 years. Ten even…
I’m already starting to feel obsolete. Younger folks no longer even use e-mail, I hear…
Yes, it’s tough to get my teen sons to check their emails. But their teachers still communicate with them that way, so I hope they’re checking in periodically!
Hope so, too, Carrie!
The apartment you’re describing sounds extremely sci fi – I’d rather have a real person coming to check on me each day. There’s something about a real touch and a genuine smile from another human being to lift your spirits.
Quite true, Julia. It’s nice to have a warm smile and a chat. Even interactions with animals lift up spirits.
My mom would hate it and couldn’t hear any robotic instructions if any given (due to hearing loss). She needs a personal touch, as I’m sure many vision and hearing impaired people do.
Thanks for chiming in, Mona. I wonder how the volunteer who’s offered to live in it for a trial period will feel.
Although I love scifi and dystopian stories, I don’t think this kind of place would be for me. But who knows if I will have a choice when my time comes?
I sure hope we’ll have choices, Evelyne…
