Matcha ice cream: green tea ice cream I know it's not summertime, but ice cream can be eaten any time, right? Since I enjoy tea, I like to get matcha ice cream once in a while. It's got this nice earthy flavor that counterbalances the sweetness of the dessert. When the creaminess is done just right, it really does remind me of properly blended matcha tea. Do you have a favorite ice cream flavor, or do you like to mix it up? … [Read more...]
Foodie Friday: Matcha Croissant
Matcha croissant: A croissant topped with a sugary matcha crust When I need comfort foods, I go straight to matcha-inspired products. I found this beauty of a treat at JJ Bakery, one of my favorite Asian bakeries. It tastes just like a croissant—but with added green tea flavor. The crust reminded me of the sweetness and texture found on top of a pineapple bun. I’ll have to admit, it was a pretty tasty treat. If the matcha had covered the whole croissant, it would've been truly … [Read more...]
Foodie Friday: Green Tea Croissant
Green tea croissant: classic crescent bun with matcha cream inside It was between this or an almond croissant at the bakery. The cute matcha sprinkles won me over. I’ve tried breaded goodies with green tea before, but not in this form. A croissant is an exquisite European delicacy. What could go wrong? I think it is an inspired Frasian (perhaps I just made up that word = French-Asian) combo. Somehow the multiple layers of a croissant didn’t work with the cream, though. I think it has to … [Read more...]
Foodie Friday: Green Tea, Red Bean, Coconut Bread
Green Tea, Red Bean, Coconut Bread: three flavors in one bread! I couldn't pass up on this new offering at Ranch 99. The bread has the same thickness of Taiwan toast. The flavors are distributed right down the middle (coconut on one side, green tea on the other). The bread has my favorite ingredients, so I shouldn't complain too much...but I do wish it had more earthy green tea flavor. P.S. Don't you just love the colors? … [Read more...]
Foodie Friday: Peach Green Tea
Well, since I'm a frequent visitor to the hospital now, I've made a nesting spot in the local Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. My latest taste from their menu includes... Peach green tea: green tea with fruity sweetness Typically, I prefer my tea plain. However, Tea Leaf offers a number of combinations. I decided to try the peach flavor. I did like the look of the peach cubes in the tea bag (see above)! It was nice to have a change where there's a subtle sweetness and flavor of fruit to contrast … [Read more...]
Foodie Friday: Iced Matcha
Iced matcha: Frosty green tea drink Time to refresh with an iced matcha! As you all know, I love green tea. Having a frosty cup of bitter matcha with the sweetness of milk is a great treat. What's your favorite drink? … [Read more...]
Foodie Friday: Green Tea Float
I've had root beer floats, but never before a... Tea float: ice cream in green tea This is ingenious! I ordered matcha ice cream on top of the tea for extra green tea flavor. It's a refreshing treat during hot times (like the upcoming heat wave). I like how the tea is fresh brewed and pure. Then the ice cream adds a hint of sweetness for a dessert-like drink. Cheers! … [Read more...]
Foodie Friday: Matcha Crisps
Matcha crisps: green tea-flavored cookies For regular followers of my blog, it's no surprise that I'm a green tea lover. My wonderful dad (so sweet!) picked up a package of matcha crisps on his recent visit to Malaysia. If you look closely at the pic, you'll see a "Penang" sticker. These are not British crisps, which are akin to potato chips. I think they're more like cookies. Here are my favorite attributes about them: Not too sweet (it's more of a snacking food) Balanced between … [Read more...]
Foodie Friday: Green Tea Latte
Green tea latte: green tea mixed with warm milk I'm a huge fan of green tea. I like its lighter taste, as compared to its more bitter and darker counterpart. Also, I enjoy knowing that I'm feasting on antioxidants. My new cold weather favorite? Green tea latte. I can't find this in all the cafes I frequent, but when I do, I like to splurge. There's something comforting about a warm mug and sipping the frothy drink. I especially relish the creaminess of the milk (although, truth be told, … [Read more...]
